the HUDDLE

Receiver gloves might be kids’ favorite gear in their equipment bags. That’s why we are going to spend the most time on gloves here.

But if you’re looking for other gifts or stocking stuffers to help your kid get better, faster:

Ok, we gotta get back to gloves because... they look cool! But if they actually perform, they help kids catch more balls and build more confidence.

No matter what brand you go with, get yourself some EliteTek Grip Drip. They will help your gloves last longer and be stickier.

In our research, what was most important to kids? It’s FL(a)G, of course!

  1. Fit! They have to feel snug and like they are an extension of the kid’s hands. If they are too loose and feel too much like “gloves,” they won’t love wearing them. Pay the most attention to a brand that has the best size for your player’s hands.
  2. Look. Let’s be honest, it was a kid who probably came up with the phrase, “Look good, feel good, feel good, play great.” You definitely have a winner if you can match your team’s color scheme.
  3. Grip. Surprisingly, our kids didn’t notice much difference in grip. Seemed like the more snug the fit was, the more confident the gloves would help them.

So, given the importance of fit and how frustrating it can be to order and return ones that don’t work over and over, let’s give you some reference. Our 8-year old tester's hand size is 7" from pinky to thumb and 4 ⅝" from wrist to the tip of the middle finger. Maybe this helps you cut down on your options simply based on size/fit alone.

  • The top pick is the EliteTek RG-14. The slip-on feature is easier than velcro options, and kids love how they feel. They also love the flashy colors, and the Youth Small size fits perfectly. For a slightly higher than average price, this brand is well worth it.
  • Behind the EliteTek, there was a tie between Grip Boost and Under Armour for the best velcro option. Kids love the look, and they fit most true to size.
  • Seibertron is our most cost-effective choice that our kids really liked.

There are many great options, though. Here are the detailed reviews of each brand, ranked by our kids.

1. EliteTek RG-14 Super Tight-Fitting Football Gloves

EliteTek New All RED RG-14 Football Gloves

  • Intro: Of all the gloves we reviewed, this is the glove that stood out the most, specifically for its unique design – there just isn't another glove like them. First of all, they slip on, which is very different from the typical velcro strap found on the wrist of the gloves to secure them. The wrist is also very cool because you can customize it to be your jersey number.
  • Fit: As mentioned, kids love the slip on and snugness.
  • Tackiness: The GripTech Palm Technology has the right amount of tacky grip to enhance every play under any weather conditions.
  • Colors: Primarily red and black
  • Price: $27.99 ($$ out of $$$)
  • Our Take: It’s our top pick. The slip-on feature is easier than velcro options, and kids love how they feel. They also love the flashy colors, and the Youth Small size fits perfectly. For a slightly higher than average price, this brand is well worth it.

2. Under Armour Boys F6 Youth Football Gloves

  1. Intro: Looking for a glove with good dexterity, comfort, and a clean and sleek look when you are in game? Look no further than the Under Armour F6. The multiple color options allow for great customizability of the glove to fit your preferences. Coming from a trusted brand like Under Armour, you can’t go wrong with these.
  2. Fit: They fit but aren’t snug. Make sure your kid fits comfortably in the size you are ordering; otherwise, order down a size.
  3. Tackiness: The glove’s Armour GrabTack technology is super sticky and allows for optimum catchability. The Heatgear fabric also helps air circulation so that your hands stay dry and cool. The glove material is wicking, so sweat dries quicker. This glove also meets NFHS, NCAA, and NOCSAE standards.
  4. Colors: We counted 10 color options
  5. Price: $25 ($$ out of $$$)
  6. Our take: Kids love the look, and they fit true to size. If brand name is important to you, this is our pick of the velcro options.

3. Grip Boost Stealth Football Gloves Pro Elite

  • Intro: Have you been looking for a glove that can survive any weather condition and can help you catch the ball in any situation? Look no further than the Grip Boost Stealth football gloves! These gloves are built to be durable in any situation, have a clean aesthetic, and look good while catching the football.
  • Fit: True to size.
  • Tackiness: These gloves are very durable and flexible. The suspended polymerization technology built into the palm of the gloves allows for optimum catchability of the football. They are made with breathable technology and are moisture-wicking so that your hands stay dry and sweat-free during games. The Grip Boost Football Glove Gel in the material allows for the glove’s durable catchability in any weather conditions.
  • Color: We counted six color combinations
  • Price: $29.95
  • Our Take: This ties with Under Armour for the best velcro option but does not have the same brand cache. That said, Grip Boost is an up-and-comer in the space and should be respected.

4. Seibertron Pro 3.0 Twelve Constellations Elite Ultra-Stick Sports Receiver Glove

  • Intro: Are you looking for gloves not only with great catchability and flexibility but also with a completely different and cool design? Look no further! We have never seen gloves with all 12 constellations in the design, which our kids were really curious about. This is definitely a standout and attractive feature of the glove, aside from its great dexterity and catchability.
  • Fit: This is where Seibertron is the big winner. Offering a Youth XS size really allows them to be a bit snugger at each size – really crucial for kids.
  • Tackiness: These gloves have elastic materials in the back of the hand, allowing maximum flexibility in catching the football. Aside from having a unique design on the palms, the sticky material allows for optimum football catchability.
  • Colors: We counted four color options
  • Price: $17.99 ($ out of $$$)
  • Our take: Kids love the unique constellation design on the palms of the gloves and the raised rubber logo on the back. The key here is that they come in Youth Extra Small, allowing younger kids to get an even tighter feel than those who only sell Youth Small. And you can’t beat the price.

Cutters S150-01-32 Game Day No-Slip Football Gloves, Youth and Adult Sizes, Receiver Gloves with High Tack Silicone Grip, Superior Support and Protect
Buy on Amazon
  • Intro: While not the most recognizable brand, these Cutters allow for optimal dexterity and catchability for on-the-field play. They also offer a clean and sleek look, so you look good while catching the football.
  • Fit: Cutters only offers S/M and L/XL in youth sizes, so your kid needs to be a big size M or big size XL for these to fit snug.
  • Tackiness: The Speed grip technology, which incorporates silicone into the palm of the glove, allows for optimum catchability and retention of the football after the catch.  The gloves are also made of durable fabric, allowing for great flexibility.
  • Colors: Black and white, but kids love the camo and USA designs!
  • Price: $19.99 ($ out of $$$)
  • Our take: Kids absolutely love the camo and USA designs Speedgrip technology, but the size offering is more limited, making it less likely they will fit snug for your child.

6. Franklin Sports Youth NFL Football Receiver Gloves

  • Intro: Do you want to go out on the field and represent your favorite NFL team? Look no further than the Franklin Sports Youth NFL receiver gloves. With the NFL licenses, these gloves offer logos and designs based on the 32 NFL teams. Aside from the cool design, these gloves offer durability, comfortability, and, most importantly, great catchability.
  • Fit: These gloves only come in two sizes (Youth XS/S Youth M/L), so fit might not be the best.
  • Tackiness: The gloves are very comfortable if you have the right size, aided by the contoured neoprene wrap built into the glove's wrist. The gloves are also very breathable, made with a lightweight polyester in the back of the hand, allowing for the hand to be dry and sweat-free during the games.
  • Colors: While most gloves come in plain colors such as black, white, or red, these gloves come in 32 different designs based on each NFL team’s logo.
  • Price: $24.99 ($$ out of $$$)
  • Our Take: These run a little big and aren’t as form-fitting. Kids love the logos of their favorite NFL team, though. If you’re playing for fun, this is a great pick. If you want gloves that perform better, choose one of our other options.

  • Fit: These gloves run very big for the size.

The palm allows for optimum catchability with built-in Magnigrip technology. The adjustable wrist closure is also great for properly securing your gloves and makes for a very comfortable fit.
  • Colors: These gloves come in White/Black
  • Price: $58.31 ($$$ out of $$$)
  • Our Take: Kids love Nike, and they look great. But for the price, they simply don’t perform any better than cheaper options. And their sizes run B-I-G. Youth Small is simply too big for our 8-9-year-olds to fit into.
